CITY THEATRE
Pittsburgh, PA
|
The main theatre is located on the second floor of the large church in its original worship space. It is designed with the seating flexibility of a "modified proscenium" configuration or a "thrust" conformation and can be easily adapted from one to the other in accordance with the requirements of the production taking place. To enhance the acoustics, the original plaster ceiling was removed to expose the heavy timber wood trusses to deaden the space acoustically and provide for a lighting grid through the trusses for flexible lighting positions. The main lobby and offices are located on the first floor in the former social hall of the church. The small theatre is located in the 1830's church that is separated from the larger structure by a courtyard that can be utilized during intermissions in the summer months. Access to the small theatre is through the foyer space of the main theatre and covered walkway has been designed to connect the two facilities. All of the support functions for the small theatre are shared with the large theatre. The former parsonage is connected to the large theatre and houses additional office space as well as dressing rooms and the green room. |
