LEED Accreditation for Staff MemberMarch 24, 2008
PWWG is pleased to announce that Dan Zhou, Assoc. AIA has earned her LEED accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council and the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program. That brings the total to four accredited professionals in the office at PWWG.

Construction is currently underway for the 12 unit apartment building and associated site work, located on Shady Avenue between Kentucky and Howe Streets in Shadyside. Franklin West Inc. is the owner of the building and RDC is the contractor for the project. Completion is expected in July 2008.

PWWG, in a joint venture with Noble Preservation Services, is beginning work for the Department of General Services on remedial repairs to the peristyle deck on the Main Capitol Building, in Harrisburg, PA. The work includes rebuilding the exterior peristyle deck and installing a permanent roof on it to address the moisture problems that have plagued this part of the building since it was constructed. This work continues PWWG's involvement in the ongoing efforts in the restoration of the historic 1906 Capitol Building.

Building #3March 21, 2008
PWWG has been retained by the General Services Division of the State of West Virginia to design the comprehensive renovation of Building #3 (the DMV Building located on the Capitol Campus) in Charleston. The building, designed in the late 40's by Cass Gilbert Jr. is an art deco office building and has been deemed an eligible historic structure by the State Historic Preservation Office. PWWG's charge is to create 21st century office space for multiple government departments while retaining the character defining architectural features of the original building. The State has chosen to seek LEED certification, and it will be the first LEED certified building on the campus. Construction of the estimated $24 million project is expected to begin in late 2008.

Mascaro Construction Co. and PWWG have been awarded a Master Builders' Association of Western Pennsylvania 2007 Building Excellence Award for the Pittsburgh Plumbers Local #27, selected as the Best Design/Build Project. The local's existing 6800 square foot building was expanded to the east and west and by adding a new second floor. The completed 17800 square foot facility almost triples the amount of former space and provides numerous enhancements for training purposes and member benefits. The contractor, owner and architect met regularly and worked collaboratively through the entire design and construction process, from the earliest design alternative to occupancy, fostering innovation in design and construction and meeting the Owner's needs efficiently. Project construction was completed in six months, two months ahead of schedule and under budget.
