Award Winning DesignsMay 20, 2005
Cabin on a Pond in Maine has won two prestigious design awards, the 2005 Citation of Merit from AIA Pennsylvania in the “Open Plan Awards” category, and the Grand Award in the “On the Boards” category from Residential Architect (magazine). The project architects are Alan Weiskopf, AIA and Kevin Wagstaff, AIA. The design is for a new 3-season vacation home.
Hillside House, designed by Kevin Wagstaff, AIA and Mary Cerrone, AIA, and was awarded AIA Pittsburgh’s Honor Award, 2004 in the “Architectural” category. It was also the “People’s Choice” award winner voted on during the design awards celebration. This project is the permanent residence for the couple and their children.
Two New ProjectsMay 20, 2005
The Pennsylvania State University has selected the Joint Venture of Rafael Viñoly Architects and PWA to design the new $30 million Life Sciences II building on the University Park Campus. The project, which will connect to the recently constructed Life Sciences Building, will provide new facilities for the Neurosciences Institute in the Huck Institutes of Life Sciences and will establish the design parti for the future buildings on the Pollock Fields site.
The Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh has selected PWA to complete the renovation of the Glen Hazel High Rise in Hazelwood. This $6 million project will upgrade the finishes, kitchens and bathrooms of this 111-unit, 8-story senior housing center.
New University Project February 3, 2005
West Virginia University has selected PWA for the $15 million renovation and addition to Oglebay Hall, a registered historic building on WVU’s downtown campus. The renovation of the existing beaux arts building will involve a complete façade restoration, and two of the building’s four floors will house forensic science labs. A 20,000 s.f. addition will provide much needed general classroom space, including a 350-seat lecture hall. The project will begin in February 2005.
Creative Addition For Penn State February 3, 2005
Penn State University has selected to PWA to design a new $2.6 million addition to the Community Arts Center at Penn State Altoona. The project will primarily support the Integrative Arts and Communications programs - two attractive four-year degree programs at Penn State Altoona. The addition includes performing arts studios, production studios for audio and video broadcasting, plus stage and workshop improvements for the existing theater. The project is expected to begin in February 2005 and be completed in the fall of 2006.
