Award Winning HotelApril 22, 2004
The new Courtyard by Marriott located at 945 Penn Avenue has received an Honor Award from the Historic Review Commission of the City of Pittsburgh for exterior and interior renovation. Working with Oxford Development, PWA created a 182-room hotel from 3 underutilized buildings that fall within the boundary of the Penn-Liberty Historic District in Downtown Pittsburgh. This 158,000 s.f. project, which is also adjacent to the new David L. Lawrence Convention Center, opened for business in March 2004.
Two New Faces at PWAApril 22, 2004
Gerrod Winston has joined the firm as an Intern Architect. Gerrod obtained his Masters Degree from the University of Maryland, graduating in 1998, and was formerly with the Design Collective, Inc. in Baltimore. He has extensive experience in commercial, corporate, hospitality, education and housing design.
Steven Albert, a master’s candidate at the University of Cincinnati, has joined the firm for a 6-month co-op work experience at PWA. Steve will be at PWA through September before returning to his classroom education at Cincinnati.
Alan Weiskopf joins City of Pittsburgh BoardApril 12, 2004
PWA Partner Alan Weiskopf, AIA, has joined the City of Pittsburgh Board of Standards and Appeals. The Board is part of the Department of Public Safety. It acts on variances requested from the Building Code adopted by the City of Pittsburgh. Members of the Board are appointed by the Mayor.
Sheldon Goettel Serving on CMU Selection CommitteeApril 12, 2004
PWA Partner A. Sheldon Goettel has been selected to serve on the search committee for the new head of the School of Architecture at Carnegie Mellon University. The current Dean, Vivian Loftness, is stepping down in June. Sheldon is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Architecture at Carnegie Mellon University.

Three New Projects in McKeesportFebrurary 02, 2004
The McKeesport Housing Authority has awarded three contracts to PWA for work in 2004. PWA will perform a Section 504 Compliance Review, (Accessibility Review) of the full inventory of Authority facilities. PWA will prepare a Master Plan for the Authority's Crawford Village facility and PWA will design the conversion of 3 story walkup apartments into townhouses at the Authority's R. B. Harrison Village community. The work at R. B. Harrison follows from a Master Plan prepared by PWA in 2003.
Senior Housing RenovationFebrurary 02, 2004
The Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh has awarded the firm the renovation of the Kelly Street High Rise building in the East End. Originally constructed in 1969, the project will improve the building’s efficiency and create a more safe and comfortable environment for residents in this 132-unit, 12-story building.
