Townhomes Rising Above the River at Summerset March 28, 2003
Forty rental townhomes designed by PWA are under construction, with the first group of them completed in March. The developer is Falbo/Pennrose. These rental townhomes and the for-sale houses, many of which are completed and occupied, are part of the new neighborhood development in the City of Pittsburgh called Summerset at Frick Park. Based on the principles of the new urbanism, Summerset at Frick Park is being developed on a 238-acre former "slag dump" bordering Beechwood Boulevard in Squirrel Hill that will ultimately have more than 700 units. Historic Preservation Work ContinuesMarch 28, 2003
The Joint Venture of PWA and Noble Preservation Services has been selected for a 5-year contract with the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission to provide preservation services at museum sites throughout the Commonwealth. It is the second PHMC contract in which PWA has been a joint venture partner. In the first contract, the firm has provided a wide variety of services, including detailed historic structures reports for the Ephrata Cloister and the Landis Valley Museum. The new contract will provide for services to continue through June 2008.

Little Sisters of the PoorMarch 28, 2003
Construction is proceeding on a major renovation and addition at the site that will modernize and humanize the living, food service and worship quarters for the 90 residents of the assisted living facility on Pittsburgh's North Side. The new, innovative design eliminates the institutional medical model and creates a more home-like atmosphere, where the rooms are designed to allow for a continuum of care. The two buildings being renovated were built in 1923 and 1972. The total project is size is 131,000 s.f. and it is scheduled for completion in the winter of 2003/2004.

Clairton Infill HousingMarch 28, 2003
The firm is undertaking the design of a neighborhood rejuvenation in Clairton, PA. The scattered site infill project is comprised of 24 new single-family homes, 4 buildings with townhouse apartments, and 15 multi-family homes, all located in a previously depressed neighborhood in Clairton. Design work also includes street plantings, numerous parklets, utilities infrastructure and new roadways.

New Staff Member at PWAMarch 01, 2003
PWA is pleased to announce that Jan Lyle Irvin has joined the firm as an Associate architect. Mr. Irvin is a graduate of Kent State University and a member of the AIA. His twenty years of experience spans varying projects and client types in both new construction and renovation from North America to South Asia. His involvements include the planning and construction of schools, hospitals, private residences, assisted living, historic preservation, religious, commercial, university and government facilities.

New Staff Member at PWAFebruary 17, 2003
PWA is pleased to announce that Carlton R. Bolton has joined the firm as an intern architect. After working in the graphic design field for over 10 years, Mr. Bolton decided to pursue his interest in architecture. In 2001 he earned a Master of Architecture degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. His areas of interest include housing, urban design and adaptive reuse.
